1. Rationale : When gifts of books and other printed materials are offered to the Bahá'í World Centre, consideration has to be given, as in the case of any gift, to the following points:

1.1. Whether the gift is acceptable.

1.2. Whether any conditions attached to the gift are acceptable.

1.3. Whether it would be preferable for the gift to be made to another institution (e.g. a National Bahá'í Library).

1.4. Whether any stipulations should be made concerning the location and use of the gift.

1.5. How the gift should be acknowledged.

2. Procedure : Whenever a gift of books or other printed materials is offered to the Bahá'í World Centre it should be passed initially to the Library.

3. Gifts of entire collections : Gifts of individual books and printed items are unlikely to present major problems, and one can assume that unless there is strong reason to the contrary the Library will accept most gifts unless multiple copies of the same item are offered from several sources. Offers of an entire collection of books and printed materials, however, present special challenges, and all such offers should be analysed by the Library which will make its recommendation to the Universal House of Justice covering the following points:

3.1. Whether the gift should be accepted in whole or in part.

3.2. If to be accepted in whole, whether any parts should be disposed of, and, if so, whither and why.

3.3. What special treatment, if any, should be accorded the collection.
