The Bahá'í World Centre Library provides information from published sources to the Universal House of Justice, the International Teaching Centre, and World Centre departments, and to individual researchers who have received permission from the Universal House of Justice in accord with already established procedure.

The following policies regarding circulation and use of Library materials have been established:

1. General policies

1.1. Researchers and readers must follow the Department's "Guidelines for Visitors, Researchers and Readers."

1.2. Readers may select the materials they wish to read from the catalogues.

1.3. Materials to be circulated, or to be read in the Library premises will be retrieved and shelved by Library staff.

1.4. Those who are reading materials in the Library quarters will be assigned a seat by the staff.

2. Circulation of books and pamphlets

2.1. Books and pamphlets will be circulated to the Universal House of Justice and its members, and the International Teaching Centre and its members, for the purposes of review of new materials and as needed for other aspects of their work. Books and pamphlets will also be circulated to World Centre departments for use in department work. Loans are not made to individuals excepting members of Institutions already noted herein.

2.1.1. Charge period is two weeks with renewals possible for two further two-week periods. Items may be recalled at any time if the Library judges another request to have higher priority.

2.1.2. Materials circulated to departments are for use in offices and should not be taken home, except by members of the Universal House of Justice and the International Teaching Centre, or others who have received permission.

2.1.3. Materials loaned to an individual or department, ought not to be given by the borrower to other individuals or departments. The original borrower will be held responsible for return of loaned Library books and pamphlets. If someone else wishes to see a circulated item, the item should be returned to the Library, which will then re-circulate the item to the new borrower.

2.2. Any department requesting to borrow a book from the Library should indicate the reason for the material to leave the Library premises.

2.3. Books and pamphlets may be used in the Library during open hours.

3. Non-circulating materials

3.1. Rare books; important signed items; microfilm; microfiche; broadsides and posters; maps of historical interest; bound periodicals, and other categories as the Library may from time to time decide, do not circulate outside the Library.

4. Circulation of periodicals, newspapers and magazines

4.1. Current issues of periodicals will be routed for four weeks according to the same provisions as listed in 2.1., 2.1.2., 2.1.3. and 2.2.

4.1.1. Those to whom periodicals are routed should follow the order of names indicated on the Library routes slip attached to the periodicals.

4.2. Back issues may circulate at the discretion of the Librarian.

4.3. Bound volumes of periodicals do not circulate outside the Library, but photocopying will be provided as needed.
