Functions
1 To provide information, from library and commercial sources, as
needed by the Universal House of Justice, International Teaching
Centre, and World Centre Departments and Offices in their work.
1.1 To provide information about published materials to the
institutions, Departments and Offices to keep them abreast
of developments related to their work.
2 To maintain a central repository for at least one copy of all
publications containing significant reference to the Faith, this
repository to become the core of the Bahá'í International Library; and to develop a Reference library of the Universal House of Justice, and smaller branch libraries in other World Centre institutions, departments and offices.
3 To order materials for the Bahá'í International Library and all
other institutional, departmental and office libraries of the
World Centre.
4 To provide information from resources outside the collections of the
World Centre Library through searching of Internet and commercial database systems, inter-library borrowing and photocopy
requests, and other services provided for and by libraries and
information centres.
4.1 The Library coordinates the evaluation, selection and
contracting for all such commercial services in
consultation with the particular Department or Office
making the request, and the Information Services Department.
4.2 The Library provides the primary and central search
service for all such commercial information services.
Staff members in other Departments or Offices may be
designated as primary searchers in a specific database,
with the Library providing the professional training and
monitoring of the staff member's search work (e.g. costs,
procedures, search strategy).
5 To provide advice and encouragement to National Spiritual Assemblies in the development and maintenance of Bahá'í libraries.
